April 24 - May 4th, 2017
Itinerary (may be adjusted under circumstances that may demand a change)
Monday, 24 April 2017: Flight from Chicago. Change planes in Toronto. Dinner, movies and breakfast on board.
Tuesday, 25 April: Arrival Tel Aviv. Airport Assistance. Transfer to our Tel Aviv beach front hotel and check-in. If time permits, we will have a panoramic tour of Tel Aviv and visit the Independence Hall. Dinner and overnight.
Wednesday, 26 April: Tel Aviv. Meet with U.S. Military Attache (subject to confirmation). A meeting with staff of Tzevet - Israeli Defense Force (IDF) Veterans' Organization. Here we will receive a special briefing by officers of the IDF and the Israeli Police. We depart for a panoramic tour of Tel Aviv including a visit to the Palmach Museum or Rabin Center where we will learn of major events in the life of Israel during times of war and peace. Afternoon back to the hotel for dinner and overnight rest.
Thursday, 27 April: Drive south to the town of Sderot. Meet Brigadier General (Res.) Shalom Harari for a field briefing about the Gaza Strip. What happened during the Defense Shield operation and how Israel is preparing for future confrontations including aspects of law enforcement during war time. Visit an Iron Dome anti missile battery. Drive to Jerusalem, on the way, a short stop at the 9/11 memorial. Arrive Jerusalem, check in and dinner.
Friday, 28 April: We start the day at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum. We will also visit the Israel Museum, house of the Shrine of the Book, where the Dead Sea Scrolls are exhibited, view a model of Jerusalem during the Second Temple time, visit the Machine Yehudi Market (to see how Israelis make their lat minute food shopping before Shabbat) and continue to the Western Wall for a special prayer before Shabbat.
Saturday, 29 April: Shabbat Rest or and Optional Day. After breakfast we will go to the Old City Jewish and Christian Quarters. We will enter the old city to visit the Holy Sepulcher Church. Inside are the last four stations of the Way of the Cross and empty grave. People from all over the world come on pilgrimages to this important place. Early dinner. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Sunday, 30 April: Masada and Dead Sea. We will leave Jerusalem and head east towards the Judean desert to Masada. We ascend Masada by cable car. Here 700 Jews chose to commit group suicide rather than fall into Roman hands. We then travel to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth and take a dip in its water - rich with minerals - nature's gift to your skin. We return to jerusalem for dinner and overnight. Possible participation in a Memorial Day ceremony. Round table tactical critique conducted by Ronit Mandel who will elaborate on military cooperation with civil law enforcement authorities.
Monday, 01 May: Memorial Day. Observe Israeli Law Enforcement Agencies provide security and crowd control for Memorial Day celebrations Participate at the Ceremony at the Armored Corps Memorial center at Latroun (11:00 am). Travel north to Tiberias and stop on the way for a visit at Nazareth. Checkin and dinner at the hotel. After dinner stroll along the Sea of Galilee board walk and see the Independence Day festivities.
Tuesday, 02 May: Ascend Golan Heights for an over view at Syria from a former IDF bunker. Watch the video about the fierce tank battle of the Yom Kippur War. Visit the town of Katzrin and watch the video about Gamia during the rebellion against the Romans. Return to Tiberias for dinner and overnight.
Wednesday, 03 May: Visit Akko - the underground impressive Crusader city that has been dug for over 20 years. Continue to Haifa and meet cadets of the IDF "Mini West Point." We shall end the day with a briefing with Haifa Law Enforcement officials about the Jewish Arab co-existence her. Drive to Netanya for a rest and dinner at our Hotel. Overnight at our Netanya hotel.
Thursday, 04 May: Airport transfer. Flight back home. Afternoon arrival in Chicago.
